    2. Some communities have paid members<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
      Communities that overlap with real-world communities can help:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      1. Existing identities from the real world are leveraged; people know each other.<\/li>
      2. The occasional face-to-face contact of members helps build community<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
        Other mechanisms may help ad hoc communities form:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        2. Social norms develop over time in communities<\/li>

          Also, a community that seems chaotic may seem purposeful to individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
