For two decades, Mark Fuerst has served as a senior executive and leader in public broadcasting and new media. Under his leadership, WXPN, Philadelphia, defined AAA music for public radio and created “World Café,” now heard on 145 stations. By 1997, when he left, WXPN programs reached 1.5 million listeners each week. He left XPN to start Public Radio Management (now Public Media Management), the first consulting group focused on internet applications for public stations. Through PRM, he organized the Integrated Media Association, which has become the principle advisory group for new media policy, strategy and practice within Public Broadcasting.
Interest: VJ models, hyperlocal and regional news sites. I could provide some information about the actual performance of online applications at public stations. (We run a project called Public Media Metrics, which uses Google Analytics to track the performance of 75 public sites.)
Identify applications that may be useful to public broadcasters.
