She joined WKU in August 2003.<br \/>\nMcAllister-Johnson was the first Black female publisher of a general circulation newspaper in the United States.  She was president and publisher, for 13 years, of the Ithaca [N.Y.] Journal, a Gannett-owned newspaper.
