Mark Silverman is editor and vice president/content and audience development at The Tennessean, the Gannett-owned daily (circ. 174,000) serving Nashville. Formerly he was editor of Gannett News Services in McLean, Va. Silverman previously has been editor and publisher of The Detroit News, executive editor of The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky., an executive on the Gannett corporate staff, executive editor of the Rockford (Ill.) Register Star and senior managing editor at Gannett’s suburban newspapers in Westchester, N.Y. Before joining Gannett, he held positions at the Worcester (Mass.) Telegram, The Miami Herald and The Providence (R.I.) Journal-Bulletin.

Silverman is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts. Silverman was named Gannett Editor of the Year in 1999 and 2001. He is chairman of the Pasadena, Calif.-based non-profit Foundation for American Communications.
