Pam McAllister-Johnson is director of the School of Journalism & Broadcasting at Western Kentucky University and director of the Center for 21st Century Media. She joined WKU in August 2003.
McAllister-Johnson was the first Black female publisher of a general circulation newspaper in the United States. She was president and publisher, for 13 years, of the Ithaca [N.Y.] Journal, a Gannett-owned newspaper. McAllister-Johnson has a joint Ph.D. in Mass Communication and Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
