The collecting, writing, editing, and presenting of news or news articles in newspapers and magazines and in radio and television broadcasts.<br \/>\n2. Material written for publication in a newspaper or magazine or for broadcast.<br \/>\n3. The style of writing characteristic of material in newspapers and magazines, consisting of direct presentation of facts or occurrences with little attempt at analysis or interpretation.<br \/>\n4. Newspapers and magazines.<br \/>\n5. An academic course training students in journalism.<br \/>\n6. Written material of current interest or wide popular appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia entry<\/p>\n<p>Root of the word: jour, French for day<\/p>\n<p>Ken: \u201cjournaling is not journalism\u201d I disagree<\/p>\n<p>Nora: there are different intentions that fall under the category of journalism. A non journalist doesn\u2019t care if the movie listings are paid advertisement or not<\/p>\n<p>Ken: I write ads on how to use the website. It\u2019s purely informational but it\u2019s a house ad. Two weeks ago I had one \u201cwhat the heck\u2019s a blog?\u201d<br \/>\nDan: an article from one publication gets printed in another as an advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Transparency in itself can create journalism.<\/p>\n<p>Dan: I believe its an element that replaces that unattainable objectivity<\/p>\n<p>Utility<\/p>\n<p>Sports scores: on a team\u2019s website it\u2019s journalism until they lie<\/p>\n<p>Nora: maybe journalism\u2019s like pornography, you know it when you see it.<\/p>\n<p>Dan: when it comes to the law and the distinction that\u2019s made for journalists is it\u2019s put out for the public<\/p>\n<p>Judith Miller she gathered info and didn\u2019t actually produce anything concrete. Part of journalism is collecting the info, the act of publication is the conclusion of journalism<\/p>\n<p>Ken: does the number of readers make it journalism?<\/p>\n<p>Facts: A collection of facts is journalism<\/p>\n<p>Dissemination<\/p>\n<p>When you\u2019re out to inform the public that\u2019s part of the process but what if you\u2019ve defined the public as your family? No court will offer protection<\/p>\n<p>Soldiers trading photos of dead bodies for porn- is that journalism? Yes<\/p>\n<p>Porn is NOT journalism<\/p>\n<p>The kama sutra can be journalism<\/p>\n<p>Service journalism is about helping you through the day. Instructions can be journalism<\/p>\n<p>Funny pages: some is entertainment, some is editorialized. Mostly no, but some can be.<\/p>\n<p>Graphic art can absolutely be journalism<\/p>\n<p>Horoscope?<br \/>\nDefinition<\/p>\n<p>Matt: I think everyone past the age of 25 has been a journalist at come point in their life<\/p>\n<p>Does the public can about this debate? Yes, but they\u2019ve moved on from this into \u201cis this useful information?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Do people need a place where they know they can always go to find \u201cjournalism\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>Jason Blair was never journalism, just turned out we were fooled<\/p>\n<p>Trust through triangulation.
