Hasn\u2019t had a day off in years, why not create a SWAT team of journalism professors and students that could take over his paper for a week and give him a vacation? The idea would be a match people with portable skills that need experience with temporary experiences.<\/p>\n<p>Duane: Another idea would be to develop an economic template \u2013 a cookbook \u2013 for journalists that don\u2019t know the business side to fill out the blanks and test the economics of the new venture ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Bill: I\u2019d like to see a website that connects us all. Who\u2019s doing this now?<\/p>\n<p>(Dan earlier volunteered to add this to his school\u2019s site with links. Need Dan.)<\/p>\n<p>Nora: We need to free ourselves up with a planning grant \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Steve: Kellogg said they were interested.<\/p>\n<p>Nora: Would like to do more research on different models of news \u201cownership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chris: We need to re-think who needs to be connected to develop last night\u2019s idea.<\/p>\n<p>Several: Let\u2019s ask Fetzer to help us flesh out last night\u2019s idea and write a grant proposal to Kellogg.<\/p>\n<p>90-day window?<\/p>\n<p>Nora: We need a real live organization to work with.<\/p>\n<p>Chris: So we need to<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Identify and convene the key people to flesh out the vision<\/li>\n<li>Polish the vision<\/li>\n<li>Go for some foundation money to plan<\/li>\n<li>Go for a existing news org partner that needs help with the future<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>(Peggy Holman joins)<\/p>\n<p>Nora: Thinking about Forum Communications, they might say, \u201cTake our newsroom \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several: Averse to big media organizations. Too slow \u2026 Need agile partners.<\/p>\n<p>Peggy: Too soon to choose target partners?<\/p>\n<p>Jim S: Could at least choose criteria as part of the grant proposal. Fetzer can help us find \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Duane: Remember PM in NYC? It attracted energy and talent from many journalists. Such experimentation DOES tie with healthy journalists.<\/p>\n<p>Ralph, Chris:\u00a0\u00a0 (Once the planning grant $$ is in) start with a specific proposal to a target organization. Ralph: Caveat! First one or two shouldn\u2019t be in a competitive market. Need fault tolerant environments.<\/p>\n<p>Peggy: Create a model that would help \u2026others \u2026 rescue markets.<\/p>\n<p>Nora: Like college towns. Receptive to journalism.<\/p>\n<p>Peggy: Editor of Biloxi looking \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Jim S: Switching subjects, how to keep the connectedness?<\/p>\n<p>Peggy: Perhaps a monthly conference call, open to all interested \u2026<\/p>\n<p>JS: Combine with dynamic website for all to watch during the call?<\/p>\n<p>(Dan Gilmor joins, Jim reviews)<\/p>\n<p>Dan: Can offer a group blog w\/ discussion capability, maybe internal e-mail<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nora agreed to work with Dan to set up a community site, categories include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Healthy Journalists<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>New economic models<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Duane: Be sure to allow for personal connection<\/p>\n<p>Ralph: Make it searchable so we can go back and extract\u2026 interest\u2026 around various topics<\/p>\n<p>(Lew Friedland joins)<\/p>\n<p>Dan: Keep this private?
