Wave of MeToo haven\u2019t resolved that, but opened a lot of doors\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How to reintegrate perpetrator, bring conversation to the newsroom and leave it there<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evolve standards of behavior<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trip: Oscillating as punishment\u2026finished a piece on restorative justice\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accountability as relationship<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Universe of obligation\u2026what do we owe each other<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tara-Lyne: What does repair look like?\u2014what are we restoring when we stay restorative justice?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>While being accountable to the harm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Andrea: Incentivize keep checking in and check-in back on that\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tara-Lyne: PArticular forms of offense\u2026how do we balance that, recognize people are human, not absolving people of fault and responsibility, not taking weight of harm away while do reparative work while making space for people who can\u2019t be repaired, how to keep balance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eugene: What do we build in daily work that facilitates accountability\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have been complaint based\u2026who has been able to take advantage of complaint based?\u2014those in power<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to build in reporting, to make space and time to look for accountability opportunities instead of waiting for it to find us<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Does the Work of Accountability Look Like<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Luisa: What it DOESN\u2019T look like\u2014the offenders doing the work of reparation.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Black and Brown people explaining why they\u2019re offended<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opening the hate of DEI effort, onus on those offended to decide what reparations there are<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jingyao: Emotional and intellectual labor of those impacted by lack of accountability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Angilee: Accountability is built in for me that I\u2019m a part of, they\u2019re at my dinner table, they\u2019re at my business. When I did a story about South Asians, people knew how to reach me. At national level, that\u2019s magnified\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accountability comes very much from community you work on<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keeping an open door, recognize that there will be failure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Re consequences and incentives, in industry, that kind of accountability isn\u2019t quantified very well. In nonprofit side, the accountability is danger (funder) for you, when it should be incentive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When someone is upset, it\u2019s dangerous the smaller the organization you are<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Doron: What does that look like to rectify?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Angilee: Looks like bringing people in conversation, have 2 people have ear of major funder that may not approve<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tara-Lyne: Different spaces of accountability\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Newsroom accountability, where harm committed (DEI efforts)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accountability to community, different structure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accountability nonprofits to funders (where money coming from, impact the community, example taking money from private prisons)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to think about all these things?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tara-Lyne: Emotional labor of education\u2026not the job of the oppressed to educate, then whose job is it? Don\u2019t trust oppressor to educate each other, but what does it mean to not put the responsibility\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Invite them to a seat at the table and have people who can enact on that work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letrell: Journalism have no accountability infrastructure internally and externally.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Was let go in a previous role where vocally critiqued reporting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Editor of one newsroom sexually harassed, had a minor demotion for a couple of weeks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A discussion about what accountability means recognizing the impact of one\u2019s actions, understanding the harm caused, and taking responsibility for repairing it.
