Session Convenor:<\/strong> Eric Galatas<\/p>\n Session Reporter: <\/strong>same<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Discussion Participants:<\/strong><\/p>\n Arthur Leggett Aracely Vasquez Barry Lewis Juanita Anderson Sonya Bernard-Hollins Bill Densmore Eric Galatas Example of multi-media collaborative event.\u00a0 Free Speech TV collaborative coverage at US Social Forum:\u00a0 Free Speech TV wants to collaborate with journalists covering the US Social Forum.\u00a0 Our goal is to amplify important untold stories through our television and internet channels.\u00a0 Journalists would be teamed up with camera operators for live reports throughout the conference.\u00a0 Live reports would be streamed live online, and available on-demand, through Livestream platform.\u00a0 All video content would be available to all participants, to post to social media sites, blogs, either through embed codes (for the live players) or on-demand files.\u00a0 Some of the programming would also be televised on satellite and cable channels.\u00a0 Trainings at USSF for using smart-phones as live television cameras.\u00a0 Students from Wayne State documentary production class might pre-produce stories that would be rolled-into the live feed.<\/p>\n What makes collaborations work?\u00a0 Shared interest, individual and collective gain.<\/p>\n What do we get from collaborations?<\/p>\n One on one interactions<\/p>\n Contributing to coverage around an event, becomes a unifying factor.\u00a0 Individual interests can be served if you can share tools.\u00a0 Limited in scope, particular time frame around specific goal that make sense to pool resources, shared contributions and shared benefits, regardless of individual interests.\u00a0 How can those principals apply to projects with broader less defined parameters.\u00a0 Time Magazineproject should die.\u00a0 Maybe there should be Detroit Story, blog for peoples stories that can find their way to various news platforms, brings authentic voices.\u00a0 What\u2019s the organizing principal, and how can it be sustained.<\/p>\n Third entity, community centric, how to court people usually relegated to the comments section.<\/p>\n What are obstacles to collaboration<\/p>\n Discussion about Time magazine Assignment Detroit model.\u00a0 Questions about what was disturbing in presentation.<\/p>\n Arrogant to think community would gather around non-representative voices, old gatekeeper model<\/p>\n Outside perspective can be valuable.<\/p>\n Is there an opportunity, to seize the name and the infrastructure (the house), to help AOL\/Time Warner, turn it into a service to community PR win for them?<\/p>\n How to bring Detroit media community together.\u00a0 If goal is to get community to participate, how do you communicate to community the value and to participate.\u00a0 What vehicles?<\/p>\n Perhaps some of the processes used at Journalism that Matters conference (Open model)<\/p>\n Idea: Bring in High schools, universities, journalism, English and social studies as a citywide project, training to become future journalists.<\/p>\n Knight Foundation possible.\u00a0 Creative Corridor, Mark Denson.<\/p>\n Goal: two parts, one has to do with redefining image of Detroit.\u00a0 Self-defining one\u2019s own image.\u00a0 Second, genuiniely, people are looking for solutions and opportunies to solve problems that are really humongous problems, and are looking for forums for solutions not coming from above.<\/p>\n Incorporate Detroit Hero, citizen journalist reports and access.<\/p>\n How can community have real buy-in?\u00a0 Should offer vision of what is possible, where we\u2019re going.<\/p>\n Assignment Detroit: we have an assignment here, and it\u2019s to add more pixels to the picture.<\/p>\n Next steps solicit a team of professional media leaders and independent journalists to recruit them into the concept.\u00a0 Present overview of vision, or let these groups articulate the idea themselves.\u00a0 Room for WXYZ to do stories, big umbrella.
