This caused intense<br \/>\ninterest in intercultural communication and the problems of communication<br \/>\nfor development and education in multi-cultural societies. Social Geographer<br \/>\nand Cultural Anthropologist by training (University of Amsterdam: UVA) Jaap<br \/>\nworked for the UVA and ISS (Institute of Social Studies), returned to<br \/>\nCura\u00e7ao in the Caribbean, joined the management of a secondary school and<br \/>\nbecame active in the teacher union movement. Returning to The Netherlands he<br \/>\nbecame General Manager of Radio Nederland Training Centre(RNTC), the Dutch<br \/>\ninstitute for media-facilitated development, educational and intercultural<br \/>\ncommunication. RNTC was and is active in development communication projects<br \/>\nall over the world. Retired from RNTC in 2002 Jaap devotes most of his time<br \/>\nto the application and critical assessment of media for journalistic,<br \/>\ndevelopmental and educational objectives (MOS.
