Freivogel, whose 31-year careeer with the "St. Louis Post Dispatch" included stints as assistant managing editor and Sunday editor, accepted a buyout in 2005. She now heads a team preparing to launch the local online community news service for St. Louis in late 2007 or early 2008. She was among a group of "Post Dispatch" staffers who tried to finance purchase of the paper from the Pulitzer family before it was sold to Lee Enterprises.
