Cody Howard has been News Director at 6News since December 2000. He oversees a staff of 17 and works closely with print and online staffers and editors to facilitate daily convergence and long-range, cross-media projects. He also works closely with 6News sister station KTKA in Topeka, Kansas coordinating daily news and big-picture collaborations.
Under his guidance, 6News claimed the national 2005 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Political Journalism. The station is also a two-time winner of the National Cable Television Association’s Community Spirit Award for Achievement in Local Programming — and recently received special recognition for outstanding commitment to local news production from the Mid-America Telecommunications Association.
He serves on the board of the Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross and coordinates numerous community service projects for the station throughout the year.
In his spare time, he enjoys running, playing softball and spending time with his two nieces. He came to Channel 6 in March 2000 after 3 years as a reporter for KLWN/KLZR radio in Lawrence. He also spent a year as a freelance sports writer for the Pitch Weekly in Kansas City. He’s a native Kansan and 1997 graduate of Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas.
