Some in this group might be interested in a (free!) ”Practical Writing Workshop” with Jack Hart (former editor of The Oregonian and author of ”A Writer’s Coach”) this Saturday (May 14) at the UW Department of Communication. Register online: http://uwcommwritingworkshop.eventbrite.com/

Thanks Kristina, we are building the momentum towards a curated calendar for events like these.

Right now, anyone who joins the Seattle Journalism Commons Group, automatically becomes an author for the Seattle Journalism Commons Blog. http://journalismthatmatters.org/seattlejournalismcommons (or click the BLOG link in the box on top of this group’s activity stream, where it says ”HOME / BLOG / DOCUMENTS” etc.

If you want to post an event, you go to the blog, bring your mouse up to the little grey menu at top of the page, hover over Dashboard > Make a new post. You are then taken to the WordPress backend and you can make a blog post, where you describe the event.

At the very very bottom of the post drafting page is a place to add event information, enter the appropriate date/time and hit the + sign and when you publish, the event info automatically goes through to the events calendar on the blog http://journalismthatmatters.org/seattlejournalismcommons/events/

After the event, you can edit the post and write about it (or someone else can who joins the group) and it will still link from the calendar, so if someone clicks on the event after it happens, they can read about what transpired.

I know this is a mouthful…but we’re getting there. I’m doing a writeup on a fabulous ”Beyond Google” event last night, it’ll be up soon.

Thanks so much for checking in! Come back for more and bring your friends!

also ignore the ”calendar” link on this groups page…that’s the old system, we’re still figuring out how to integrate it site wide or whether to get rid of it and do what we have now with tying blog posts to calendar events
