Non-profit Journalism: 11 months, 2 weeks ago · ViewGetting closer to launching my nonprofit news site. It’ll be Arlington, Va.’s first non-profit devoted solely to it. We’re going to be story-focused, multi-media in our mission. I’m getting excited. One thing: we don’t know what to name it. The Corp is Arlington Community News Lab, but I hate that as a the name of the site. What do you all think of these:
ArlingtonWireOnLine.org
ArlingtonCoffeeBreak.org
ArlingtonNewsBreak.org
FrontPageArlington.org
StreetCornerArlington.org
ArlingtonShuffle.org
ArlingtonContent.org
I want the name to say two things: 1, ”Swing by when you have a few minutes, maybe during a work break.” and 2, you’ll find a community here.
Lemmeno what you think.

Non-profit Journalism: 1 year ago · ViewWe justed started a non profit news organization in Massachusets. However, our digital news will focus on West Africa where most of our members are from. Our website is currently under construction. We will be glad to share the contents with you when we formally begin posting. But it’s interesting to join you so we can share experiences in non profit journalism. I will start posting this week on what I think is new in non profit journalism.
Excellent @jaytoewesseh. Please share your updates on the blog, rather than the Group Activity Stream.
By joining this group, you have by default become an author of the blog. You can see a link to it in the control panel above the activity stream, where it says ”HOME” ”BLOG” ”DOCUMENTS” etc.
The difference between a blog post and a status update post (straight into the activity stream) is that a status update is more ephemeral. Something that you want to keep around for people to reference in the future goes on the blog, but something that’s more like a personal comment or a link you want to share with the group, but not officially ”publish” goes into the activity stream.
You can also ”ping” people through a status update by putting the @ symbol in front of their USERNAME (hover the mouse over their real name, the URL that it points to is http://journalismthatmatters.org/members/username so use that last /username part of the URL to find their username. It’s also displayed next to their real name on their profile
Lastly, you should be able to send instant messages to people in the group. If you don’t see that option, it’s probably because you’re not friends with that person. I don’t remember at the moment if we made friendship a requirement for sending an instant message.
Blog posts also make their way into the Activity Stream, as well as all other group activity.
Does this make sense? Thanks so much for using our site to help launch your pilot. Please click ”send invites” at the top of the group and bring others in if you feel inclined!

Non Profit Journalism: 1 year, 1 month ago · ViewHey everyone, I added a simple logo just to get rid of the weird default one from Wordpress. I’m okay with changing it, all we need is a 150×150 pixel image
I changed the group avatar to match the updated design for the group blog, at http://journalismthatmatters.org/nonprofitjournalism/

non profit journalism: 1 year, 1 month ago · ViewFirst, a big shout-out to Brian Glanz for setting up this group (thanks, again, Brian, woo-hoo!).
Second, I’m looking into starting a nonprofit news website, and I have two crowd-sourcable questions:
1: Do you know of nonprofit news websites and whether they created their corporations with voting members, non-voting members or no members?
2: Does anyone have a good method for estimating annual revenue from member donations? -
